ñ Announces new Vice-President

March 15, 2002. Madison, Wisconsin—Alec Hill, President of ñ®, announced today the selection of Dr. Andrea C. McAleenan as Vice President and Director of Advancement. Dr. McAleenan comes to ñ from Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA, where she was Dean of Executive and Extended Learning. She brings long experience of teaching and consulting in the field of leadership for non-profit organizations.

Dr. McAleenan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts from Michigan State University, a Masters of Arts in Student Personnel Administration and Counseling, also from Michigan State, and a Ph. D. in Higher Education Administration from Claremont Graduate University.

From 1997 to 1999, Dr. McAleenan was Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management, and from 1990 to 1997 she held several administrative posts at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Earlier, she served as Dean of Student Life at Gordon College, Wenham, MA, Director of Communications for Cities in Schools, Inc., Washington, D.C., and Dean of Instruction at Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA.

“ñ has a unique position and opportunity in higher education,” says Dr. McAleenan. “ñ goes beyond the rhetoric to truly integrate the life of the soul with the life of the mind. Its ministry is based on Kingdom principles, and that includes how it treats its staff and financial resources.”

“Andrea has been a light in the secular university world,” says Alec Hill. “Her colleagues describe her as both a visionary and an encourager. I am delighted that she comes to ñ at a time when we are eager to expand our outreach onto more campuses. She has raised significant funds for Claremont University and for Cities in Schools.”

Dr. McAleenan grew up in Michigan, attended the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church, and made a personal profession of faith in Christ as a teenager at a summer camp at Gull Lake Christian Conference Center. She fell in love with choral music in church and school, and traveled with the Michigan Chorale throughout Europe after her senior year of high school. She sparkles when she speaks of the importance of music in her faith life. “I have directed choirs in churches in three states and sacred music remains an integral part of my life.”

ñ is an interdenominational campus ministry with 750 chapters on more than 530 campuses in the United States, and is a member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students.
