The Book of Revelation Will Shape Urbana 18

(Madison, WI) --- The leadership team for ��ñ��’s Urbana Student Missions Conference has chosen the last book of the Bible, the book of Revelation, as the focus of the next Urbana, which will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, December 27-31, 2018.

“We are praying that God will give this generation fresh eyes to see the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb who was slain, in all his power and glory,” said Úna Lucey-Lee, Urbana Program Director. “We are eager for God to use this biblical vision to compel Urbana 18 participants into deeper trust, wholehearted discipleship, and enthusiastic involvement in global missions.”

With this selection, Urbana renews its commitment to making Scripture the foundation and framework integrated into every aspect of Urbana. “In the development of the Urbana program, we select Scripture first and build the program out of it rather than pick topics and find Scripture to support them,” said Lindsay Olesberg, ��ñ�� Scripture Engagement Director and Urbana 18 Scripture Consultant.“This approach is an expression of our belief that the Holy Spirit is orchestrating God’s global mission of redemption and of our desire to cooperate with the Spirit.”

Since ��ñ��’s first student missions conference in 1946, more than 285,000 Urbana participants have heard the call to join God’s global mission. Billy Graham has said that half of American missionaries can trace their vocational call, at least in part, to Urbana.

“This generation of North American students may be more globally aware and connected than any before them. They long for justice as they carry the hurt of a world in crisis in their pockets,” said Ruth Hubbard, Director of Urbana. “Our desire is to provide a space for as many students, recent graduates, and faculty as possible to find or renew hope as they grow in their love of God, God’s Word, God’s people of every ethnicity and culture, and God’s purposes in the world.

��ñ�� is an interdenominational ministry working with more than 40,000 students and faculty on 667 campuses nationwide. ��ñ�� is a founding member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, which advances Christian student work in over 160 countries.

Urbana 18 is ��ñ��’s 25^th student missions conference, co-hosted by ��ñ��, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada, and Groupes Bibliques Universitaires et Collégiaux du Canada.

Urbana 15 Scripture Chosen

(Madison, WI) – ��ñ�� Christian Fellowship has laid the foundation for the December 2015 Urbana Student Missions Conference by choosing the Gospel of Matthew as the Urbana 15 Scripture focus.

“Every three years, the Urbana Missions team seeks to saturate the entire Urbana conference in Scripture,” said Tom Lin, ��ñ�� Vice President, Director of Missions and Urbana. “We believe this generation is moved and inspired by narrative, and there is obviously none more central than that of Jesus' crucifixion and the cross, both of which we will study from the Gospel of Matthew at Urbana 15.”

The theme for Urbana 15, which is still unchosen, will come from Matthew’s Gospel. “Selecting the Scripture on which the conference is built is one of most important decisions in the entire process of creating Urbana,” said Lindsay Olesberg, Urbana Scripture Manager and ��ñ��'s Scripture Engagement Director. Urbana 15 attendees will experience Matthew’s Gospel through ��ñ��’s unique style of inductive manuscript Bible study, small group discussions, and theater team presentations. Urbana plenary speakers will also be focusing on Matthew through their Bible exposition.

"The Great Commission is from Matthew but it is usually quoted in isolation from its context,” said Úna Lucey-Lee, Urbana Program Director. “By looking at the place of the nations in Jesus' story from his birth through his resurrection, Urbana 15 participants will understand Jesus' command to ‘make disciples of all nations’ with new depth and insight.”

The purpose of Urbana is to invite each generation of college students to consider joining God’s global mission. This will be ��ñ��’s 24th triennial student missions conference, since the first was held in Toronto in 1946. Tens of thousands of men and women have been led by God into fulltime service for His Kingdom following commitments made at Urbana.

��ñ�� and Inter-Varsity Canada host the Urbana Student Missions Conference as a service to the North American church. ��ñ�� is a campus ministry which has worked with students and faculty on U.S. college and university campuses for more than 72 years. ��ñ�� has more than 900 chapters active on almost 600 campuses across the United States, from Ivy League universities to community colleges. ��ñ�� is a charter member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) and the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES).
