(Madison) — ��ñ�� has named Andrew Ginsberg as Vice President, Director of Advancement. Andrew will officially begin his new responsibilities on July 1, 2011.

��ñ��’s Advancement Department is responsible for communications and financial development. For the past eight months Andrew has served as Associate Director of Advancement. His previous roles have been at the executive level in healthcare, including Vice President of Marketing and Managing Director of clinical research for LabCorp; and a number of leadership and strategy roles for multiple sectors of SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline) in the U.S. and abroad.

“Andrew’s 18 years of experience as an executive in sales, marketing, and strategy in the healthcare industry have prepared him well for his new position,” said Alec Hill, President of ��ñ�� Christian Fellowship. “We already see the fruits of his skills and passions translating into ��ñ��’s purpose and mission.”

Andrew came to faith in Jesus Christ through ��ñ��’s ministry at Duke University, although it wasn’t until five years after he was out of college. His long walk to faith demonstrates the power of prayer; he became a follower of Jesus Christ as a result of the prayers of his friends who were ��ñ�� students and their churches, who continued to pray for him long after they had all graduated.

Today he is an elder at Chapel Hill Bible Church in North Carolina, and he recently chaired a Pastor Search Team. His experience as Church Treasurer and College-age Sunday School Teacher also prepared him for working in his new position with ��ñ��. He has served on a number of non profit boards.

Andrew graduated from Duke University with a B. A. in Political Science and a Genetics Certificate. He and his wife Marnie live in Durham, NC. They will be moving with their three daughters to Madison, WI, the home of ��ñ��’s national office.

��ñ��’s current Vice President and Director of Advancement, Barney Ford, will continue in his position until the end of June, 2011. After a sabbatical break, Barney will return to ��ñ�� in a role yet to be determined.

(Madison WI)—Seventeen Christian ministries that work on U.S. college campuses have established a new standard of cooperation and mutual respect for their work with college students and faculty. Meeting in a Chicago suburb last October, leaders of the ministries agreed to eight basic points of unity in mission aimed at keeping their work on campus cooperative rather than competitive.

The meeting was held at the offices of ��ñ�� Press in Westmont, Illinois. The “Chicago Agreement” as it is called, is an update of an earlier agreement forged between leaders of Campus Crusade for Christ, Navigators, Young Life, and ��ñ��, in 1971.

Renewing the Basics

Last year leaders of Campus Crusade, Navigators, and ��ñ�� decided to meet in order to update and modify the language of their partnership. They identified 14 other organizations that work on campus and might want to participate in the process.

“Our hope was that ten or twelve ministries would be represented,” said Jim Lundgren, Senior Vice President and Director of Collegiate Ministries for ��ñ��. “To our surprise, sixteen of the seventeen came for the 24 hour meeting. The one campus director who could not come made a pledge to sign whatever we developed.”

Keeping it Simple

The aim was to put together a clear and simple agreement that did not read like a theological treatise or a legal document. After the eight points were tentatively agreed upon, the ministry leaders took the document back to their respective organizations for review. By early January there was unanimous agreement on all of the eight points.

“I believe that the spirit of partnership and respect that we experienced together is as important as what we produced in the actual agreement,” Lundgren said. “I see the Chicago Agreement as a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit in our movement and in leadership of these other movements.”

Lundgren said that the plan is for the leadership group to meet together every three years, in order to modify the agreement as necessary, and to learn from each other.

Westmont, IL—��ñ�� Press was honored in the 2011 Christianity Today Book Award list with winners in two categories, as well as one Award of Merit. The annual awards are among the most prestigious of their kind, recognizing outstanding new books “that best shed light on the people, events, and ideas that shape evangelical life, thought, and mission.”

The Passionate Intellect: Christian Faith and the Discipleship of the Mind by Alister McGrath received the top honor for Apologetics and Evangelism. McGrath highlights the gospel’s ability to engage with the complexities of the natural world on the one hand and human experience on the other. “Alister McGrath is one of the leading Christian scholars of our day,” said Andy Le Peau,associate publisher and editorial director. “We owe him a great debt for emphasizing that faithful Christian living requires faithful Christian thinking.”

The Historical Jesus: Five Views editedby James K. Beilby and Paul Rhodes Eddy won the category for Biblical Studies. The Historical Jesus offers a unique entry into the Jesus quest, bringing readers up to date on the true substance of the vigorous debate among scholars that has often been distorted in recent years by the media.

The Dangerous Act of Loving Your Neighbor: Seeing Others Through the Eyes of Jesus by Mark Labberton received an Award of Merit for Christian Living. “Mark Labberton has served us all powerfully by showing that doing the right thing often begins with the simple yet challenging act of seeing people for who God made them to be,” said Le Peau.

(Madison, WI) – Across the country colleges and universities are beginning a new school year. Leaders of ��ñ�� Christian Fellowship anticipate another exciting year of growth in campus ministry despite some uncertainty created by a recent Supreme Court decision.

Taking note of five years of steadily increasing numbers of on-campus conversions, and the largest-ever class of new staff trained in June, ��ñ�� president Alec Hill said, “This is a good season for ��ñ�� right now, the climate for campus ministry has never been better.”

Best ever

In the past five years ��ñ�� staff members have seen an increase of 68 percent in the number of students we work with becoming followers of Jesus Christ. The number of non-Christians involved in chapter activities has increased by 44 percent. Despite the fact that field staff must raise their financial support in the worst economy of the past half-century, a record number of 134 new staff attended ��ñ��’s Orientation of New Staff conference in June.

As part of its focus campaign to reach new campuses, ��ñ�� has planted 69 new chapters over the past four years. More than 2,160 students and faculty are active in those new chapters. This fall an additional 17 new chapters are being planted at campuses across the country, from Iowa Central Community College to the University of Connecticut.

Unresolved questions

Questions about campus ministry were raised by the June ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, in which the justices decided in a 5-4 decision that the University of California Hastings College of Law could deny official recognition to the Christian Legal Society (CLS) as a campus organization. The denial was based on CLS’s requirement that members of the organization affirm a statement of faith and on Hastings’ “all comers” anti-discrimination policy which states that all student organizations must accept all students who apply for membership.

��ñ�� does not have a strict membership policy, but we do require our leaders to affirm our Doctrinal Statement. However Hastings’ “all comers” policy seems to be unique among colleges. So the impact of the CLS v. Martinez decision on ��ñ��’s campus ministry is still unclear. It is our hope that we will be able to continue to operate as freely as any other campus organization.

��ñ�� is an interdenominational ministry working with 35,000 core students and faculty in 850 chapters on U.S. college and university campuses. “Core” is defined as 50 percent participation or more. Founded in 1941, ��ñ�� is a member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, advancing Christian student work in 150 countries.

(Madison, WI) — ��ñ�� Christian Fellowship will likely be impacted by the U.S. Supreme Court's 5-4 decision in the case of Christian Legal Society v. Martinez. The ruling allows Hastings School of Law in San Francisco, a public institution, to refuse recognition to a campus Christian group which excludes from membership students who refuse to sign a statement of faith and adhere to the tenet that sexual activity should not occur outside of marriage between a man and a woman. Hastings policy states that all campus organizations must be open to all students at all levels.

"Today's decision is disappointing and will likely change the way we operate on some campuses," said ��ñ�� president Alec Hill. "However, whether our chapters are recognized as official student groups or not, we are confident that God will continue to be at work transforming the lives of students and faculty across the country. We plan to continue to minister at both public and private schools. As we have for the past seven decades, we will be responsible campus citizens and pursue Truth prayerfully. We will do so with civility, humility and biblical integrity."

Although ��ñ�� and the Christian Legal Society (CLS) work closely together on a number of law schools, ��ñ��'s structure differs from that of CLS. ��ñ�� chapters do not have members and invite broad participation of students and faculty with diverse views and values. However, chapter leaders are required to assent to our Doctrinal Basis, a position we have defended on a number of campuses.

��ñ�� is an interdenominational ministry working with students and faculty in 860 chapters on U.S. college and university campuses. ��ñ�� is a founding member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, advancing Christian student work in 150 countries.

Tom Lin to Lead ��ñ�� Missions and Urbana

(Madison) — ��ñ�� is pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Lin as vice president of Missions and the director of the Urbana Student Missions Conference, effective February 1, 2011.

“Tom is an entrepreneurial leader with rich experience in student ministry and missions, both in the U.S. and abroad,” said Alec Hill, ��ñ��’s president. “I am thrilled that he will be leading ��ñ��’s missions programming to challenge new generations of college students to invest their lives in the Great Commission and become a part of God’s global mission.”

Tom served with ��ñ��/USA from 1994 to 2001, planting new student chapters at Harvard University and Boston University, leading numerous student missions projects abroad and in North America, developing new national fundraising strategies and, designing national training for ��ñ�� staff. From 2002 to 2006, Tom helped establish an evangelical student movement in Mongolia and served as the country director for the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students in Mongolia. Since moving back to the U.S. in 2006, Tom has been an ��ñ�� regional director, overseeing undergraduate campus ministry in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Tom has served as a missions consultant for various organizations and is in demand as a speaker and teacher throughout Asia and North America. Since 2005 he has served on the board of Wycliffe Bible Translators. He is also a trustee of the Leadership & Legacy Foundation.

Tom is the author of Losing Face, Finding Grace, published by ��ñ�� Press (1997). He has a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University. He is completing an M.A. in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Jim Tebbe, the outgoing vice president of Missions and director of Urbana, will step down from his ��ñ�� duties June 30, 2010, in advance of his new role as rector (president) of Forman Christian College in Lahore, Pakistan.

��ñ�� is an interdenominational ministry to students and faculty on U.S. college and university campuses, with 36,000 core students and faculty on 673 campuses nationwide. ��ñ�� is a founding member of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, advancing Christian student work in 150 countries.

Westmont, IL—2010 is off to a wonderful start for ��ñ�� Press, as it became the recipient of numerous book awards. The publishing house led the way in Christianity Today’s 2010 Book Awards by receiving four first-place wins, more than any other publisher. Award winners were God is Great, God is Good (Apologetics/Evangelism) edited by William Lane Craig and Chad Meister, The New Shape of World Christianity (Missions/Global Affairs) by Mark A. Noll, Longing for God (Spirituality) by Richard J. Foster and Gayle D. Beebe, and Deep Church (The Church/Pastoral Leadership) by Jim Belcher.

Largest Missions Bookstore in the World Ready to Launch

Westmont, IL—It’s only open for five days, but with over 900 unique titles and 30,000 square feet, the largest Christian missions-focused bookstore in the world will soon be open for business. The venue is Urbana 09, ��ñ��’s twenty-second student missions conference held December 27–31, 2009, at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri. The triennial conference includes the ��ñ�� Press–sponsored Urbana Bookstore, which features IVP titles as well as books from other publishers.

IVP authors Shane Claiborne (Becoming the Answer to Our Prayers) and Brenda Salter McNeil (A Credible Witness) will be keynote speakers for the conference, while books by James Choung (True Story: A Christianity Worth Believing In) and Kent Annan (Following Jesus Through the Eye of the Needle) will be featured as “Books of the Day” and sold at deep discounts. Seminar speakers include Ben Lowe (Green Revolution), Andrew Marin (Love Is an Orientation), Julie Clawson (Everyday Justice) and John Perkins (Welcoming Justice). (Madison,WI)—College students want to change the world, today more than ever. The study-abroad statistics from the Institute of International Education indicate a growing desire for a global perspective. More than 262,000 Americans studied abroad in 2007-2008, an increase of 8.5-percent from the previous year and four times the number of just two decades ago. Changing the world is what Urbana 09 is all about.

Urbana’s Global Perspective
The growing number of students with global experience who will attend ��ñ��’s Urbana 09 Student Missions Conference is reminiscent of the returning veterans who attended ��ñ��’s first Student Missions Conference in 1946. They had acquired a global perspective as they traveled across the globe during World War II and were preparing to return overseas, taking the gospel message with them.

In the years since 1946, as student populations have changed in many ways, ��ñ��’s triennial Student Missions Conference has maintained its global perspective. In 1948 the conference relocated to the campus of the University of Illinois, where it came to be called Urbana. Then in 2006 it moved to St. Louis, Missouri, for Urbana 06. Urbana 09 will also be held in St. Louis, December 27-31, 2009 at the Edward Jones Dome and The Americas Center.

Not Just Another Conference
Since that first conference 63 years ago, more than 240,000 Urbana attendees have been challenged to consider God’s call to global missions. Urbana has become one of the longest-lived, regularly scheduled events within evangelical Christianity, and its impact on each generation of college students is widely known and well respected. Pastor Rick Warren, the author of the best-selling book The Purpose Driven Life and a speaker at Urbana 06, said, “You can’t afford to miss Urbana. If you are serious about not wasting your life, do whatever it takes to get there.”

Urbana is focused on mobilizing men and women for global missions, but the conference’s influence is broader. Author and theologian John Stott, who spoke at six Urbanas, said, “In my travels I have met many missionaries and other Christian workers whose lives were profoundly changed by the Urbana experience.”

Urbana’s Ripple Effect
In a growing number of countries the Urbana conference has been a stimulus for Christian student groups to sponsor their own student missions conferences in locations as far-flung as Nigeria, India and Ukraine. “These events represent a growing missionary vision across the world,” said Lindsay Brown, former General Secretary of the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students. “There’s no doubt in my mind that Urbana has contributed to this vision.” About two dozen international guests will be on hand at Urbana 09 to gain an insider’s perspective on hosting their own student missions conference.

The best way to experience Urbana is by attending the multitude of seminars, and by developing new contacts and new friendships. But today the explosion of electronic media and the internet means that the message of Urbana 09 will be shared in many new ways.

Urbana and Social Media
Videos of the general sessions will be posted online at www.urbana09.org within hours after each session. Audio files from general sessions and news conferences will also be made available, as well as news releases. But unofficial, participant-produced reports from Urbana will also be populating online social media, on sites such as YouTube, Facebook, and Flickr. Urbana 09 will be the first Urbana conference that can be followed on Twitter (use the hash tag #urbana09).

“At a time when students are thinking globally and are open to what it is that God may be saying to them, we’re showing them what God is doing in the world, and then inviting them to be a part of that,” said Jim Tebbe, the director of Urbana .
